Asset Developer (2022 - Present)

My first foray into organised team work was through Tamriel Rebuilt, an ongoing modding project for The Elder Scrolls III: Morrowind to restore the entire province of the eponymous Morrowind. Tamriel Rebuilt had its beginnings in 2001, before Morrowind had actually released, being planned out by eager fans. Since then, generations of volunteer developers have contributed to it, no one person able to claim ownership of the project. Project Tamriel is a sister project to TR, hoping to create the rest of the fictional continent of Tamriel in The Elder Scrolls III.

I had uploaded mods for Morrowind since 2018 as a hobby, but in 2022 I made the leap to submit 3D assets for Tamriel Rebuilt. After my first asset submission (A new dock tileset) passed review, I was inducted as an asset developer.
I was made an asset developer in Project Tamriel two years after, as I was also regularly contributing there.

As a volunteer project, asset developers look at asset requests that other developers post and fulfills the ones within their time and ability. My work as an asset developer mostly involves looking at those requests and producing assets that match Morrowind's graphical fidelity using specialty tools like NifSkope to recreate materials for engine-ready 3D models. Sometimes these requests come with concept art and designs, while other times asset developers will take a broad idea and design and create the asset themselves. Once approved, the asset would be merged into the shared project asset repository, Tamriel_Data.

Quite often these requests would be debated over and ideas had to be defended to make sure they were congruent with the lore and setting of Morrowind. Given how passionate everyone on the projects were for The Elder Scrolls, making assets for Tamriel Rebuilt and Project Tamriel was often a careful balancing act to make sure the game's lore and setting was preserved when creating new content, both aesthetic and functional.

While not as active anymore, I'm still a member of both the Tamriel Rebuilt and Project Tamriel teams, occasionally contributing new assets. My latest contributions were featured in Tamriel Rebuilt's Grasping Fortune release.

Here are some of my contributions that have been merged into Tamriel_Data:

  • Khajiiti chess
  • Mournhold-style docks
  • PC-wearable Golden Daedric armour set
  • Colovian household sword
  • Expanded dragonscale armour set
  • Candle snuffer misceallaneous item
  • Ceiling-mounted training dummy

Separate to TR and PT, I have been a contributor to OAAB_Data, a community asset repository for Morrowind, since 2021.
Similar to my work to TR and PT, I contribute game-ready assets that can be used by other modders. As there is a lot of cross-pollination between Tamriel_Data and OAAB, many of my assets made for one repository have been merged into the other.
